SAIC-GM has released official images of the Buick Electra E7, a new five-seat plug-in hybrid SUV scheduled to enter the Chinese market later this year, as the automaker expands its electrified lineup under the Electra nameplate.
The Electra E7 is built on Buick’s “Xiaoyao” fusion architecture and adopts the brand’s “True Dragon Plug-in Hybrid Pro” technology. The model reflects Buick’s latest design direction, drawing inspiration from the Electra SUV concept with what the company calls a “wing element” design language. The exterior features sharp body lines, a split headlight layout and a front fascia described by Buick as resembling a “wind-chasing shark.”

Dimensionally, the Electra E7 measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width and 1,676 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. The SUV rides on 20-inch “Wing Flow Shadow” wheels fitted with Michelin tires. At the rear, a full-width “Galaxy Wing” taillight design incorporates parametrically arranged light elements.
The model will be equipped with Buick’s “Xiaoyao Zhixing” assisted driving system, which uses Momenta’s R6 reinforcement learning large model to support advanced driver assistance functions. The intelligent cockpit system is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8775P chip, integrated into the Xiaoyao architecture.

Power comes from Buick’s True Dragon Plug-in Hybrid Pro system, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid-specific engine with an electric motor. The engine delivers 115 kW of rated power and 230 Nm of torque, while the electric motor provides up to 165 kW of output. Energy is supplied by a lithium iron phosphate battery. Buick said the system offers a CLTC-rated pure electric range of more than 210 km and a combined driving range exceeding 1,600 km.
The Electra E7 also features a pre-emptive RTD continuously variable damping suspension system. According to Buick, the system scans road conditions up to 500 times per second and adjusts damping as frequently as 200 times per second, allowing it to anticipate road imperfections such as speed bumps and manholes up to 20 metres ahead to improve ride comfort.
