The electric vehicle manufacturer from China is determined to provide high-tech emission-free mobility solutions or “five-star” status to attract consumers from the European market.

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers are aiming for the highest rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), which recognizes the safety features of the electric vehicles they manufacture.

“All Chinese EV makers want to achieve a five-star Euro NCAP rating to be more competitive in the European market,” said Brian Gu, president of Xpeng electric cars.

Xpeng over the past three years solidified its presence in the European electric vehicle market by establishing dealerships and after-sales service centers in Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, before launching and selling the Xpeng P7 and G9.

Matthew Avery, director of the Thatcham Research car research center in the UK said that Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers realize that safety features are the most important part of consumer concern.

If Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers are able to prove their quality, then it is not impossible that European companies will make the electric vehicles they produce an operational fleet.

“Fleet sales are critical and many fleets have a five-star safety rating as a mandatory feature,” said Avery.

Previously, BYD received major orders for 100,000 EVs from German car rental company SIXT for the next six years. For the initial stage, SIXT will receive the BYD Atto 3, an electric SUV based on e-Platform 3.0 and known in China as Yuan Plus.

BYD Atto 3 gets 5 stars in NCAP crash test. The NCAP score for BYD is 91 percent for adult passenger protection, 84 percent for child passenger protection, 69 percent for protection of vulnerable road users, and 80 percent for safety assistance features.

Other Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers that received the highest rating from NCAP included Great Wall Motors (GWM) for the Coffee 01 hybrid SUV and the ORA electric sedan.
