U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has partnered with charging software provider WeaveGrid to offer smart home charging capabilities to its EV owners by the end of 2025, aiming to cut charging costs and support grid stability.
Through the collaboration, Rivian drivers will be able to access WeaveGrid’s energy management software, which shifts EV charging to times when electricity is cleaner and less expensive. The system coordinates with utility grids to enable smart, grid-responsive charging—particularly at home, where over 80% of EV charging takes place.
“Working with partners like WeaveGrid across the country will allow us to help customers participate in utility programs that can reduce charging costs while supporting grid stability and reducing carbon emissions,” said Wassym Bensaid, Chief Software Officer at Rivian.
WeaveGrid’s technology enables EVs to interact directly with the power grid, offering capabilities such as vehicle-to-grid communication and optimized charging schedules. The company partners with major U.S. utilities including Xcel Energy, Exelon, DTE, PG&E, and Southern Company. “This integration with Rivian’s robust software platform allows us to deliver real-time, grid-responsive charging while elevating the already premium driver experience,” said Apoorv Bhargava, CEO and Co-founder of WeaveGrid.
The move expands WeaveGrid’s reach in the EV sector, following previous investments from Toyota’s Woven Capital and automakers Kia and Hyundai. By linking Rivian’s software ecosystem with WeaveGrid’s utility-facing platform, the companies aim to streamline participation in energy-saving programs across more than 3,000 U.S. utility regions.
