Rivian has officially introduced the production versions of its highly anticipated quad-motor variants for the R1T electric pickup and R1S electric SUV. The new top-tier configurations mark a significant leap in performance for the electric vehicle manufacturer, featuring a four-motor drivetrain that delivers an impressive 764 kW of combined power and 1,198 Nm of torque.
Designed for enthusiasts seeking extreme performance in an electric utility platform, the new models are engineered to rival the acceleration of high-end supercars while retaining off-road and utility functionality.
The quad-motor system, which places an individual electric motor at each wheel, allows for exceptional torque vectoring and rapid acceleration, enabling both the R1T and R1S to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. This level of performance is particularly notable given the nearly 3.2-ton curb weight of each vehicle.
To manage thermal loads and sustain performance, Rivian’s in-house developed motors are equipped with oil cooling systems, which are especially beneficial during high-torque demands or low-speed maneuvering.
Despite the performance-focused architecture, Rivian has integrated energy efficiency into the design. The rear axle motors, which are geared for maximum output, can be automatically deactivated in low-demand driving scenarios, such as when using the vehicle’s Conserve driving mode.
This strategy helps extend the driving range, which can reach up to 400 miles under optimal conditions on a full charge using the company’s 125 kWh “Large” battery pack. With all motors engaged, range is slightly reduced to approximately 374 miles, according to EPA estimates.
From a design perspective, the exterior styling of the R1T and R1S Quad remains largely unchanged compared to their dual-motor counterparts. However, subtle enhancements distinguish these high-performance models, including specially designed 22-inch wheels and blue brake calipers.
The interior has also received a premium treatment, featuring quilted seats, refined materials, and distinctive bronze and check-pattern accents. These elements are available in the special launch edition trim, which commands an additional premium.
The R1T Quad is priced starting at $115,990, while the R1S Quad begins at $121,990. Rivian is offering a fully loaded launch edition for an additional $4,000, with deliveries for U.S. customers scheduled to commence in July. In a bid to improve charging convenience, both models will transition to the North American Charging Standard (NACS) beginning with the 2026 model year. This move will eventually grant access to Tesla’s Supercharger network without requiring adapters, further expanding charging infrastructure availability for Rivian owners.
While other electric truck makers, such as Tesla with its Cybertruck “Cyberbeast,” have made performance a focal point, Rivian’s quad-motor setup currently leads the segment in power output. The quad configuration not only enhances on-road performance but also bolsters off-road capabilities through precise individual wheel control.
Though the vehicles’ acceleration and power figures bring them close to the realm of performance coupes, their utility-focused form factors and spacious interiors maintain the practicality expected of a pickup or SUV.
The introduction of these quad-motor models reflects Rivian’s continued push to blend high-performance engineering with practical electric mobility. As part of its evolving second-generation platform, Rivian is doubling down on in-house technology development and modularity to stay competitive in a fast-changing EV landscape. With these new offerings, the company is targeting premium buyers looking for a versatile EV that can deliver both on-road thrills and rugged capability.
