Rivian introduces Kneel Mode in the latest software update, makes entry/exit easier by lowering the vehicle

Rivian rolled out the 2022.39.03 software update for the R1T electric pickup and R1S electric SUV. The highlighted feature of this latest update is the “Kneel Mode” which can lower the vehicle by up to 10 inches, making it easier for the driver and passengers to get in and out of the vehicle.

The “Kneel Mode” feature is possible due to Rivian’s independent air suspension system. This feature can be activated after the vehicle is parked, and places the vehicle at a low driving height—about 10 inches (254 millimeters) from the ground.

This feature is very useful for easy entry/exit and loading and unloading of equipment. The vehicle will remain in that position until driven back.

Activating it is simple:

1. Tap the “Settings” gear icon in the lower center display of your Rivian EV.
2. Next, navigate to the “Vehicle and Access” screen.
3. From there, you can toggle Kneel Mode on and off.

For safety and convenience reasons, “Kneel Mode” is only available in Economy or Multipurpose riding mode when Standard ride height is selected.

For security reasons too, if someone opens the door before the full descent is complete, the process will stop. The unloading process will continue and the vehicle will remain in the lowered position after all passengers have left the vehicle.

“Kneel Mode” is not available in Off-Road or Towing mode because changing the ride height may endanger the vehicle or the load being towed. “Kneel Mode” is also not available during Sport mode because the vehicle has been set to a low driving altitude.

Previously, Rivian launched “Camp Mode,” in September which uses the vehicle’s independent air suspension to equalize itself, ensuring a more comfortable space to lie down while in nature.

Rivian Software Update 2022.39.03 also brings enhanced functionality to the Gear Guard security system, including the ability to enable/disable Gear Guard from the Rivian app. This is possible on version 1.8.0 of the app, which is coming in November.
