Supply chain sources have hinted at potential discussions between Rivian and Apple for a collaboration that could enhance Rivian’s upcoming R2 and R3 vehicles while providing Apple with an outlet for some of its advanced electric vehicle (EV) technology developed for Project Titan.

Apple’s EV ambitions have been the subject of speculation, with reports suggesting a shift in focus towards developing artificial intelligence (AI) after initially planning to launch an electric vehicle with limited autonomous driving features in 2028. Recent reports indicate that Apple may have halted its own EV development to concentrate on AI technology.

A partnership with Apple could be transformative for Rivian, particularly in the realm of autonomous driving. Tesla’s recent emphasis on AI development and autonomous driving has set a trend in the industry, with other companies like Hyundai following suit. Rivian stands to benefit from integrating Apple’s AI technology into its vehicles, potentially enhancing their autonomous driving capabilities.

Rivian has been making strides in its production efforts, highlighted by a recent $827 million incentive package from the Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity in Illinois. This package will support the expansion of Rivian’s R2 production facility in Normal, Illinois, marking significant progress in its manufacturing capabilities.

Looking ahead, Rivian plans to further expand its production capacity by constructing an EV plant in Georgia. This expansion aligns with Rivian’s strategy to increase R2 and R3 production, demonstrating its commitment to growth and innovation in the EV market.

While details of the potential partnership remain undisclosed, both Rivian and Apple could benefit from a collaboration that leverages Rivian’s EV expertise and Apple’s technological advancements.
