California-based electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has announced a substantial software update, version 2023.34.0, for its R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck models. The update brings notable improvements to ride quality, handling, and user experience, further underscoring Rivian’s commitment to refining its offerings over time.

One of the standout enhancements in this update is the significant improvement in ride quality across various drive modes and ride heights. According to Rivian’s release notes, Sport Mode now offers a more balanced blend of ride comfort and handling, while the All-Purpose Soft Ride Mode delivers enhanced comfort.

The update also addresses suspension behavior by reducing the abruptness of the suspension response when encountering sharp road impacts. Additionally, it minimizes harshness when navigating bumps and dips at lower speeds, such as in parking lots. These refinements are made possible by the adaptable air suspension system featured in both the R1T and R1S models, which can be fine-tuned to cater to different preferences.

Furthermore, the software update introduces a new option for setting cruising speed while using Highway Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control. With the addition of the Speed Limit mode, drivers now have two choices for cruise control settings: Speed Limit mode, which automatically adjusts the vehicle’s speed to match the posted road limit, and Current Speed mode, which maintains the current vehicle speed.

Another noteworthy addition is the Screen Clean feature, designed for practicality and ease of use. When activated, it temporarily deactivates all displays within the vehicle, allowing for convenient cleaning without inadvertently activating on-screen functions.

Rivian has also worked on optimizing energy efficiency, reducing range loss by more than 25 percent during vehicle sleep mode when Gear Guard is set to “Off at Home” or disabled. Moreover, the updated smartphone app (version 2.2.0 or later) now provides notifications in case of issues with the 12-volt battery, enhancing vehicle monitoring and maintenance capabilities.
