Renault is set to present its new Renault 4 JP4x4 Concept at the French Open tennis tournament in Paris on May 18, introducing another design study derived from the fully electric Renault 4 E-Tech platform.
The concept vehicle combines styling cues associated with beach buggies and pickup trucks while paying tribute to historic Renault 4 variants from previous decades. Renault said the model takes inspiration from the Plein Air introduced in 1969 and the JP4 launched in 1981.

According to the automaker, the “JP” designation references both the original JP4 and the French phrase “journée à la plage,” meaning “a day at the beach,” underscoring the leisure-oriented character of the vehicle.
The Renault 4 JP4x4 Concept becomes the fourth showcar based on the Renault 4 E-Tech after the Fl4wer Power, Savane 4×4 and Vision 4Rescue concepts. Renault described the latest version as “an adventurer with an open-air feel.”
The vehicle features an open roof, two minimalist side doors and a rear tailgate designed to fold down in a manner similar to a pickup truck side panel. Renault also equipped the concept with a surfboard mounted on the roof and skateboards stored in the rear compartment.

“A cross between a pick-up and a beach buggy, Renault 4 JP4x4 Concept was designed as a car with no real boundary between the exterior and the interior,” said Jean-Philippe Salar, Renault’s Advanced Design Director.
“This aspect is highlighted by the striking contrast between the Emerald Green of the bodywork and the vibrant orange of the interior textiles,” Salar added. “Designed first and foremost as a leisure vehicle, it invites us to reconnect with the freewheeling spirit of the 1960s and 1970s.”
The concept shares its technical foundation with the Renault 4 Savane 4×4 Concept introduced in 2025. Renault said the JP4x4 sits 15 mm higher than the standard Renault 4 E-Tech and rides on 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ tyres. The vehicle also features front and rear track widths widened by 10 mm.

A second electric motor mounted on the rear axle gives the concept permanent all-wheel-drive capability, which Renault said improves agility and off-road performance on sand, rocky terrain and unpaved roads. The company added that the vehicle demonstrates the adaptability of its RGEV Small platform for electric B-segment models with four-wheel drive.
Renault’s decision to unveil the vehicle during the French Open reflects its partnership with the Grand Slam tournament, which began in 2022. The automaker also presented the Renault 4 Savane 4×4 Concept at the event last year and has been testing autonomous shuttle buses there since 2024 in collaboration with Chinese autonomous driving company WeRide.
