Renault Group to Receive 12 GWh of Low-Carbon Batteries Annually from Verkor

Renault Group and Verkor have announced a new commercial partnership for the supply of low-carbon batteries for electric vehicles. Verkor will provide Renault with 12 GWh of batteries per year, which will be used in the upper segments of the company’s brands, starting with the upcoming Alpine 100% electric C-Crossover GT manufactured in Dieppe, France, from 2025.

These batteries will be produced in France at Verkor’s Gigafactory in Dunkirk, and the partnership builds on the strategic relationship formed with Renault’s acquisition of a stake in Verkor in June 2021. The two companies have approved the product’s technical quality, economic competitiveness, and industrialization process, from the Verkor Innovation Centre in Grenoble to the construction of the Dunkirk Gigafactory, which will be operational in 2025.

Benoit Lemaignan, Co-founder, and Chairman of the Management Board of Verkor, says the partnership demonstrates Renault’s confidence in their project and reinforces the importance of European battery production and the value chain in the energy transition.

François Provost, Renault Group Chief Purchasing, Partnerships, and Public Affairs Officer, states that the partnership allows Renault to secure a long-term supply of electric batteries and ensures traceability of the battery elements. It aligns with Renault’s ambition to control the entire electric value chain and develop a robust electrical ecosystem of technology centers, vehicle, engine, and battery factories in France, at the heart of Europe.

This partnership marks a significant step in Verkor’s development, and the supply of these high-performance, low-carbon batteries will help Renault achieve its goals for sustainable mobility.
