Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely Group), the parent company behind Volvo and other automotive brands, has introduced its latest venture, Radar Auto, an independent brand specializing in electric vehicles (EVs). On Tuesday, the company announced the successful rollout of its first batch of electric trucks for international markets, marking a significant milestone for the brand.
The RD6 EV pickup truck, labeled as “China’s first pure electric outdoor lifestyle brand,” showcases Radar Auto’s dedication to producing sustainable and versatile electric vehicles. The company operates its own research and development facilities and EV production units in China, while still enjoying the support and resources provided by its parent company, Geely Group.
Radar Auto’s RD6 is based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which is the foundation for other Geely Group brands like ZEEKr 001 and the upcoming Polestar 4 electric SUV coupe. The RD6 is available with battery pack options offering ranges of 248 miles (400 km), 341 miles (550 km), and an impressive 392 miles (632 km). The electric pickup is powered by a 200kW (268 hp) electric motor, generating 284 Nm of torque.
Notably, all RD6 models come equipped with vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities and 220V outlets, allowing users to power electronic devices conveniently while on the go.
The RD6 EV pickup made its debut in China in February, and Radar Auto proudly claims it as the first mass-market fully electric truck produced in the country. With its popularity and affordability, the RD6 quickly garnered attention within the Chinese market.
Now, less than six months after its initial launch, Geely Group has taken a significant step towards the global market by producing electric pickups for export. The company recently shared the exciting news on its Twitter account, announcing the shipment of the first export batch of Geely’s electric pickup trucks from the Zibo Smart Factory.
Pricing for the RD6 in China is notably competitive, starting at RMB 178,800 (approximately $25,000) for the base model with a 63 kW battery, RMB 198,800 ($27,800) for the 86 kW version, and RMB 228,800 ($32,000) for the top-tier 100 kW variant.
According to Radar Auto, their focus extends beyond just trucks; the brand envisions developing a comprehensive portfolio of electric lifestyle vehicles, encompassing pickup trucks, SUVs, ATVs, and other exciting products.
With the successful export of its electric pickups, Radar Auto is poised to make a significant impact on the global electric vehicle market, combining Geely Group’s expertise with its own innovative approach to eco-friendly transportation solutions. As international customers eagerly anticipate the arrival of the RD6 EV, Radar Auto’s future appears promising as they embark on a journey to revolutionize the outdoor lifestyle vehicle segment.
