Geely subsidiary Radar Auto has just launched the RD6 electric pickup truck which is its first model in China. The RD6 electric pickup truck comes in four versions with prices starting at 178,800 yuan, under 25,000 euros.
The RD6 electric pickup truck uses the SEA Group platform with dimensions of 5,260 mm x 1,900 mm x 1,830 mm and a wheelbase of 3,120 mm. Dimensionally, the RD6 electric pickup is right on the scale of similar EV pick-ups like the Ford F-150 Lightning or Rivian R1T. In the launch event, the company positioned the RD6 as a direct rival to the Rivian R1T.
The RD6 electric pickup truck comes in three battery capacities of 63 kWh, 86 kWh and 100 kWh, providing the CLTC range of 400 km, 550 km and 632 km respectively.
The motor used has a power of up to 200 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. The RD6 electric pickup truck also comes with autonomous systems including L2 driving assistance, including Rear Collision Alert, Rear Traffic Alert and Autonomous Emergency Braking.
Radar Auto will be positioned as an independent brand and have its own R&D facility in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, and an EV production facility in Zibo, Shandong. At the same time, the brand uses Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA).
To set Radar apart, automotive designer Peter Horbury assisted with branding from his UK design studio. “Radar’s product portfolio is focused on electric pick-up trucks and SUVs; this direction challenges us to blend functionality and usability with form aesthetics,” he explained when Radar first appeared in July.
