Dutch public transport operator Qbuzz is expanding its zero-emission fleet with a second batch of 62 electric buses from Chinese manufacturer Yutong, following a successful initial deployment that outpaced European competitors in reliability and delivery.
The new order comes after 50 Yutong electric buses entered service in December 2024 on the South Holland North concession. Qbuzz praised the Chinese-made vehicles for their strong technical performance and high satisfaction among passengers and drivers.
“Yutong brings the sustainability goals in South Holland North within reach again,” said Annemarie Zuidberg, General Manager at Qbuzz. “Early results from a customer satisfaction survey show improved passenger appreciation for comfort, luxury, and overall travel experience.”
While Qbuzz did not confirm the exact model for the new order, the initial fleet consisted of the Yutong U15, a 15-metre electric bus accommodating approximately 100 passengers.
Qbuzz’s decision underscores the challenges faced by European electric bus suppliers, including delivery delays and the bankruptcy of manufacturers like Van Hool, which forced Qbuzz to cancel a previous 112-bus order. In contrast, Yutong’s ability to deliver 50 buses within six months and meet operational expectations has proven pivotal.
With Dutch transport concessions demanding aggressive decarbonisation targets, Qbuzz is taking a pragmatic approach focused on availability, cost-effectiveness, and supplier reliability. The new Yutong buses are expected to be delivered by the end of 2025, marking continued progress toward fully electric public transport in the Netherlands.
