Porsche launched the third generation electric race car named 99X Electric Gen3. This car is for the ABB FIA Formula E world championship season 2023.
According to Porsche Motorsport Vice President Thomas Laudenbach, this Gen3 race car is more powerful and technically impressive when compared to previous race cars. This car is done directly by their engineers at the R&D facility of Weissach, Germany.
“They can all be really proud of the results. Like the all-new Formula E generation, the Porsche 99X Electric Gen3 represents a technological milestone in all-electric racing,” Laudenbach said, quoted from the Carscoops page today, Wednesday, November 9, 2022.
Porsche’s new electric race car has a striking appearance with the aim of attracting a younger target audience. Most of these cars are built with new bodywork in accordance with the new Formula E Gen3 regulations released last April.
The Porsche 99X Electric Gen3 is claimed to be the smallest car ever to be raced in Formula E. This is because the battery used is now smaller, but can charge twice as much when the car is braking.
The electric racing car is equipped with a driving motor capable of producing 350 kW of power or the equivalent of 469 HP. All the electric motor power is channeled through the rear wheel drive system.
“The Porsche 99X Electric Gen3 and other new Gen3 vehicles are expected to make racing even more spectacular for fans and increase the popularity of Formula E around the world,” said Formula E Manufacturing Director of Motorsport, Florian Modlinger.
Next season, the Porsche 99X Electric Gen3 will be driven by Antonio Felix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein. This new Porsche electric racing car will make its Formula E racing debut in the Mexico City Grand Prix Series on January 14, 2023.
