Jaguar TCS Racing unveiled the I-Type 6 that will be used for the 2023 season of ABB FIA Formula E. Jaguar calls the I-Type 6 “the most advanced and efficient all-electric Jaguar race car ever”.

The Jaguar I-Type 6 will make its racing debut in January. This is a Gen3 Formula E race car with front and rear powertrains.

The front motor-generator provides 250 kW of regeneration, while the rear unit provides 350 kW for a total of 600 kW. That’s more than twice the regenerative capability of the Gen2 cars and eliminates the need for conventional rear brakes.

In vehicle weight, the I-Type 6 is 163 lbs (74 kg) lighter and has an additional 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) of power as the model now expands to 469 hp (350 kW / 476 PS).

The reduced vehicle weight and extra power allowed the I-Type 6 to reach a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h).

For the 2023 season, Jaguar will sport a new livery that combines carbon black with satin white and gold accents. Also, the cars have an asymmetrical design so fans can tell the difference between Mitch Evans and Sam Bird drivers.

Jaguar said the I-Type 6 will also be field tested supporting “important race-to-road learning for the electric powertrain, sustainability and software technology.”

This technology transfer will help Jaguar’s electrification goal as a modern, all-electric luxury brand starting in 2025.
