Pony AI has launched what it described as Europe’s first commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, following a partnership with Verne and Uber.

From today, users in Zagreb can book and pay for autonomous rides through the Verne app, with integration into the Uber platform expected in the near term. The initial service area covers approximately 90 square kilometres, including key districts in the city centre and Zagreb Airport.

The robotaxi service operates daily between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., offering continuous commercial rides for local passengers. The rollout comes just weeks after the three companies formally announced their European collaboration.

Under the partnership, Verne is responsible for fleet ownership and local operations, including regulatory compliance, while Pony AI provides its autonomous driving technology and operational expertise.

The service currently uses vehicles based on the Arcfox Alpha T5 from BAIC, equipped with Pony AI’s seventh-generation autonomous driving system.

“Zagreb validates the capabilities of Pony AI’s seventh-generation robotaxi technology in a new market,” said James Peng, co-founder and CEO of Pony AI.

The companies plan to expand the fleet to thousands of vehicles in the coming years and extend services to additional European cities and global markets. Pony AI aims to reach a fleet size of 3,000 vehicles by the end of this year through similar joint deployment models.

The Zagreb launch follows another milestone for the company, after it recently secured approval from regulators in Singapore to begin an invite-only autonomous ride-hailing service ahead of a broader public rollout.
