Polestar has introduced a battery state-of-health (BSOH) certificate for its pre-owned Polestar 2 vehicles as part of its certified used car programme, the company said on Wednesday. The certificate is intended to provide prospective buyers with a clearer understanding of the battery’s condition and usable capacity.
The BSOH certificate will indicate the remaining usable battery percentage and will be included with vehicles that are reintroduced into Polestar’s partner network. The company said the initiative is designed to support transparency and customer assurance in the growing used EV segment.

“Thanks to our new battery state-of-health certificate, we’ve just added another reason for used EV buyers to purchase a pre-owned Polestar 2,” said Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller. “Along with the 112-point check, 24-month warranty and roadside assistance, plus our commitment to continually enhance our vehicles via over-the-air software updates, buyers can be confident they’re getting the very best example of a used Polestar 2 possible.”
To qualify for the pre-owned programme, each vehicle undergoes a 112-point inspection at an authorised service location. Polestar also provides documentation verifying mileage, service history, and ownership. Certified vehicles include a 24-month warranty in addition to the remainder of the original eight-year battery warranty.

Since the Polestar 2’s launch in 2020, the model has received over 20 over-the-air software updates. These updates have included efficiency enhancements, range improvements through battery management, and new software features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and third-party apps including Waze and YouTube.
The certification initiative follows a broader industry trend aimed at addressing battery-related concerns in the used EV market by providing more detailed information on vehicle condition.
