Polestar 2 Becomes a Top-Selling Electric Company Car and Cracks the Top Ten Overall in Germany Auto Market

The Polestar 2, the first fully electric vehicle from Polestar, is shaking up the auto industry and making a name for itself in some of the most popular vehicle markets. In fact, in 2022, the Polestar 2 became a top-selling electric company car and placed among the top ten overall company cars in Germany, home of luxury vehicles and auto innovation.

LeasePlan, the worldā€™s largest fleet management service company, reported that the Polestar 2 was its most popular company car in 2022 in Germany. This impressive feat is especially noteworthy as the Polestar 2 beat out the Tesla Model 3 Long Range and Model Y Long Range, claiming the top two spots with different variants. The Polestar 2 AWD long-distance model was the most popular choice, followed by the FWD variant that has since been upgraded to RWD.

Moreover, the Polestar 2 has been creeping up on Volkswagen and Fordā€™s top-ranking spots and has cracked the top ten overall most popular company cars in Germany. Christopher Schmidt, commercial director at LeasePlan Germany, emphasized the importance of stronger incentives for electric cars to make the entire top ten list greener.

Despite the lack of incentives, the Polestar 2 continues to gain ground in a highly competitive region. Polestar first revealed the Polestar 2 in February 2019, aiming to compete with the Tesla Model 3. Since its launch in mid-2020, the Polestar 2 has become one of the most popular EVs in many of its original markets, including Norway, Sweden, Germany, UK, and Belgium. Polestar has also updated the vehicle over-the-air (OTA) to optimize the driving experience.

Earlier this year, the 2024 Polestar 2 debuted with exciting upgrades, such as bigger batteries, more powerful motors, RWD, and Polestar SmartZone that acts as a third eye with intelligent cameras and sensors to enhance safety. This is significant news, as Germany is renowned for its high-quality automakers. Polestar is expanding globally and establishing itself as a real threat in the rapidly growing EV market.

Polestar achieved its goal of delivering over 50,000 vehicles last year and beat expectations in Q4, while several young EV makers revealed financial struggles. Polestarā€™s CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, is gearing up for another big year with the launch of the Polestar 3, the brandā€™s first electric SUV, which boasts over 300 miles of range. Furthermore, Polestar is preparing to launch its electric performance SUV coupe this year, the Polestar 4, which will compete with top EVs in the segment like the Tesla Model Y.
