Italian energy company Eni’s charging infrastructure subsidiary Plenitude has formed a strategic partnership with Italian design firm Pininfarina to develop a new generation of electric vehicle charging stations.
The collaboration will focus on designing charging spaces that combine technical functionality with architectural design and user experience. According to Plenitude, the project aims to create charging stations that are visually distinctive while remaining adaptable to a wide range of urban and regional environments.

Under the partnership, Plenitude will contribute technological expertise related to electric mobility infrastructure, while Pininfarina will lead the architectural and design development of the charging stations.
The design firm will focus on aspects such as material quality, ergonomics and the integration of charging infrastructure into surrounding environments. The project will also explore additional services intended to improve the overall charging experience for EV drivers.
Specific technical details of the charging stations have not yet been disclosed. It remains unclear whether the concept will primarily focus on AC charging, DC fast charging, or a combination of both, and no timeline has been announced for when the design phase will be completed or when the first installations could be deployed.

Currently, in the DC charging segment, Plenitude largely uses hardware supplied by Alpitronic. While it has not been confirmed, future charging concepts developed with Pininfarina could potentially incorporate similar charging technologies.
As part of the partnership, Plenitude will install four charging stations at Pininfarina’s headquarters in Cambiano near Turin, Italy. The site will include two AC charging points rated at 22 kW each and two DC chargers capable of delivering up to 50 kW.
“The collaboration with Pininfarina brings together two leading players in the Italian industry, whose expertise is recognised both nationally and internationally,” said Paolo Martini, Head of E-Mobility Recharge Solutions at Plenitude and CEO of Plenitude On The Road.

“We are in a period of profound transition, technology is evolving rapidly, and this agreement will help reshape the way we experience charging areas, with the aim of offering e-drivers increasingly personalized services tailored to their needs,” Martini added.
Paolo Dellachà said the project reflects the company’s long-standing involvement in mobility design.
“This partnership confirms Pininfarina’s commitment to helping redesign the mobility of the future,” Dellachà said. “Together with Plenitude, we aim to transform charging areas into spaces that are more welcoming, recognisable, and harmoniously integrated into their surroundings.”
