The Tesla Cybertruck, once a coveted rarity on the resale market, is now flooding listings with over 140 units for sale, showcasing a wide range of prices.
Tesla had attempted to deter early Cybertruck resales by adding a no-resale clause to its order agreement and blacklisting some owners who listed their vehicles for sale. Despite these efforts, some owners managed to sell their Cybertrucks at significant profits, sometimes doubling the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).
However, the days of fetching over $100,000 in profit from a Cybertruck sale seem to be waning. The increased availability of the electric pickup truck in the used market, following Tesla’s ramp-up in deliveries, has led to a decline in prices.
Last month, it was revealed that Tesla had produced just shy of 4,000 Cybertrucks since the start of production in November 2023, with a notable milestone of 1,000 Cybertrucks produced in a single week in April, indicating a ramp-up in production.
With the Cybertruck becoming less of a rarity, the used inventory has surged, causing prices to drop. CarGurus currently lists 148 Tesla Cybertrucks for sale in the US, with many having very low mileage (under 1,000 miles), suggesting they are from owners looking to offload them quickly. However, there are also several with over 1,000 miles, indicating previous ownership.
Prices have seen a significant decline, with several Cybertrucks now listed in the $120,000 range, which still represents a $20,000 premium over the MSRP. While some owners are holding out for $200,000, recent auctions have seen Cybertrucks sell for approximately $150,000, making the likelihood of such high prices less feasible.
