Onvo, the mass-market electric vehicle brand owned by Nio, has launched the updated L60 SUV in China, introducing significant technology upgrades while reducing the model’s starting price in an effort to strengthen its position in the country’s highly competitive EV market.

The refreshed Onvo L60 starts at 192,800 yuan ($28,440) with the battery included, representing a 6.8% reduction from the previous model’s starting price of 206,900 yuan. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin immediately.

The price reduction comes despite higher production costs, with Nio management recently noting that the updated model costs significantly more to manufacture than its predecessor.

Three Variants Available

The new L60 is offered in Pro, Max+, and Ultra+ trims, priced at 192,800 yuan, 202,800 yuan and 222,800 yuan respectively.

Customers opting for Nio’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription model can purchase the vehicle at lower upfront prices of 135,800 yuan, 145,800 yuan and 165,800 yuan respectively, while renting the battery separately.

The updated SUV incorporates 106 improvements, covering technology, performance, comfort and intelligent driving capabilities.

New Proprietary Smart Driving Chip

One of the most significant upgrades is the introduction of Nio’s self-developed 5-nanometer Shenji NX9031 automotive chip.

The new processor is available in the Max+ and Ultra+ variants and works alongside the company’s Nio World Model (NWM) intelligent driving architecture.

The system enables advanced point-to-point navigation assistance across multiple driving environments and supports autonomous entry and exit at Nio’s battery swap stations.

Meanwhile, the entry-level Pro version continues to utilize a vision-based driver assistance system powered by Nvidia’s Orin-X processor, delivering 254 TOPS of computing performance.

Notably, the Max+ variant, which includes the new Shenji chip, is priced below the starting price of the original L60 generation.

Fast Charging and Battery Swapping

The updated L60 is built on a 900-volt electrical architecture designed to support both ultra-fast charging and battery swapping.

According to Onvo, the SUV can complete a battery swap in approximately three minutes and recharge from 10% to 80% battery capacity in around 25 minutes.

A 60-kWh battery pack is fitted as standard, providing a CLTC driving range of up to 560 kilometers.

Customers seeking greater range can choose an 85-kWh battery option, extending the CLTC range to as much as 740 kilometers.

Enhanced Comfort Features

Onvo has also upgraded the vehicle’s interior technology and comfort equipment.

The flagship Ultra+ model features a 17.3-inch 3K foldable rear entertainment screen mounted in the ceiling, a powered roof sunshade and a six-liter smart refrigerator capable of both cooling and heating functions.

To encourage early orders, the company is offering incentives valued at more than 53,000 yuan for customers who finalize purchases before June 30.

These benefits include discounts on optional features, financing incentives and five years of complimentary access to intelligent driving assistance functions.

Expanding Battery Swap Network

A key advantage for Onvo remains access to Nio’s extensive battery swapping infrastructure.

As of June 11, more than 2,553 battery swap stations across China were available to Onvo owners, with the company targeting more than 3,300 stations by the end of 2026.

The L60 was originally launched in September 2024 as Onvo’s first production model and was positioned as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y.

Supporting Sales Growth

The upgraded L60 arrives as Onvo continues to gain momentum in China’s EV market.

The brand delivered 12,029 vehicles in May, representing a 91.5% increase compared with the same month last year and a 124.8% jump from April.

Nio delivered a total of 37,705 vehicles during May, its strongest monthly performance of 2026 so far, and expects second-quarter deliveries to reach between 110,000 and 115,000 units.

The company also announced that its Coconut operating system will receive a major software update in July, bringing enhancements to intelligent driving functions, AI-powered cockpit features and overall vehicle performance across the Onvo lineup.
