Nuvei said on Wednesday it has expanded its partnership with Loop Global to power electric vehicle (EV) charging payments in Canada, enhancing transaction speed and reliability while planning to extend into the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the end of 2025.

The collaboration builds on a U.S. initiative, integrating Nuvei’s local acquiring capabilities into Loop Global’s unattended EV charging terminals. These units are being deployed across Canadian commercial properties, workplaces, municipalities, and public infrastructure, with the aim of delivering faster and more reliable transactions for drivers.

Canada’s EV sector is growing quickly, with zero-emission vehicles making up 15.4% of new registrations in 2024 and more than 724,000 such vehicles registered since 2020. The market for EVs and charging infrastructure is projected to almost double from USD 6.56 billion in 2024 to more than USD 12 billion by 2029. Loop Global’s stations use WizarPOS’ Android-based unattended smart terminals, which are integrated with Nuvei’s modular payments platform to ensure secure and enterprise-grade transactions.

By processing transactions domestically through Nuvei, Loop Global allows drivers to complete payments seamlessly while operators benefit from greater predictability in interchange costs. Phil Fayer, Nuvei Chair and CEO, said the partnership supports fast-growing sectors such as sustainable transportation, adding that combining Nuvei’s local acquiring in Canada with Loop Global’s charging infrastructure and WizarPOS’ technology simplifies operations for consumers regardless of payment method.

Son Dang, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder of Loop Global, said the collaboration ensures reliable, secure, and cost-effective charging for both drivers and site hosts. He added that Nuvei’s direct acquiring enables Canadian businesses to handle domestic transactions locally, improving approval rates and bypassing third-party processors. The solution also integrates alternative payment methods and omnichannel capabilities, which are expected to help operators boost sales and enhance customer satisfaction.
