Nissan has opened UK orders for a new 52kWh version of the all-electric Leaf, expanding the model lineup with a lower-priced variant that qualifies for the government’s full £3,750 Electric Car Grant.
With the incentive applied, the new model starts at an on-the-road price of £28,849 and delivers a WLTP driving range of up to 280 miles, providing a more affordable option for buyers entering the electric vehicle market.
New Entry-Level Leaf
The 52kWh battery variant joins the previously launched 75kWh model and will be offered in Engage and Advance trim levels.
Nissan said the new version is aimed at customers seeking a balance between everyday usability, driving range and affordability.
The entry-level Engage trim includes an 11kW onboard charger, heat pump, 18-inch alloy wheels and dual 12.3-inch displays as standard.
Customers can also add an optional technology package that includes integrated Google services, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and larger display screens.
The Advance trim builds on the standard equipment with a panoramic electrochromic roof, head-up display, powered tailgate, privacy glass and a full-width illuminated front light bar.
Unlike the larger-battery model, the 52kWh Leaf is not available in the range-topping Evolve specification, which includes features such as a Bose premium audio system, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability and synthetic leather upholstery.
Built in the United Kingdom
Nissan confirmed that production of right-hand-drive Leaf models has started at its Sunderland manufacturing facility, with the first customer deliveries expected later this summer.
Product Manager Aditya Moore said the new battery option broadens the appeal of the latest-generation Leaf.
“We are excited to introduce the new 52kWh battery option on the All-New Nissan LEAF, offering up to 280 miles of range (WLTP) and starting at an attractive £28,849 with the Electric Car Grant. Designed for everyday driving, it combines confident electric performance with the comfort, technology and practicality customers expect from LEAF.”
Alternative to the 75kWh Model
The 52kWh version complements the larger 75kWh Leaf, which starts at £32,249 after government incentives.
The higher-capacity battery offers a WLTP driving range of up to 386 miles and is powered by a 158kW (213hp) electric motor capable of accelerating from 0 to 62mph in 7.6 seconds.
By introducing a lower-cost battery option while maintaining eligibility for the UK’s maximum electric vehicle incentive, Nissan is broadening the accessibility of the Leaf as demand for affordable electric cars continues to grow.
