“China is not only the world’s largest auto market but also the innovation engine driving the global industry’s transformation,” said Stephen Ma, member of Nissan’s Global Executive Committee, chairman of Nissan China, and president of Dongfeng Motor Company. “We are fully committed to China—building cars for Chinese consumers at ‘China speed,’ while also connecting our expertise to the world to serve global customers.”
The joint venture is intended to strengthen Nissan’s plan to transform its China operations into a global hub for new energy vehicle (NEV) research, development, and exports. By combining China’s NEV and smart technology supply chains with Nissan’s experience in safety, reliability, and comfort, the venture aims to develop products for international markets.
