Nio has released a new video demonstrating the capabilities of its executive flagship sedan, the ET9, equipped with the innovative SkyRide chassis system. The video, released as China returns to work after the Lunar New Year holiday, shows the ET9 undergoing winter testing in snowy conditions.
According to Nio’s WeChat account, the ET9 was taken out into the snow and ice at the start of the new year for winter testing. The video showcases the ET9’s ability to adjust its body height and shake off thick snow, demonstrating technological advancements not commonly seen in the automotive industry.

The ET9 is equipped with the SkyRide intelligent chassis system, which features the world’s first integrated hydraulic fully active suspension. This system enables the ET9 to make transient adjustments to stiffness, damping, and height, offering a smooth and comfortable ride even on complex road conditions.
Nio highlights that the ET9’s four wheels can be controlled independently, allowing for six-way adjustment. The vehicle’s body height can be lifted or lowered by up to +40/-50 mm, with adjustments taking just two seconds to complete. This capability not only enhances the vehicle’s performance on the road but also improves passenger comfort.
The SkyRide system’s active electric drive unit processes road information in real-time, allowing the vehicle to adjust its attitude in response to road bumps within a thousandth of a second.
While Nio did not specify the location of the test in its WeChat post, a company executive mentioned that it was conducted in Yakeshi, Inner Mongolia, in northern China.
The ET9, unveiled at Nio Day 2023 on December 23, 2023, has generated significant interest. Priced at 800,000 yuan ($111,210), the ET9 is packed with the latest technologies, with the SkyRide chassis system being a standout feature. The system includes steer-by-wire, rear-wheel steering, and fully active suspension, offering a new level of comfort and performance.
Nio has been showcasing the capabilities of the ET9 through various demonstrations, including videos showing the vehicle’s stability over speed bumps and in shallow puddles of water. With deliveries of the ET9 set to begin in the first quarter of 2025, Nio continues to impress with its innovative approach to electric vehicle technology.
