Nio has introduced its premium compact electric vehicle brand Firefly in Bangkok, Thailand, marking the brand’s second right-hand-drive market after its entry into Singapore earlier this year.
The launch forms part of the Chinese automaker’s ongoing international expansion as it seeks to grow its presence in overseas markets, including Southeast Asia.
To distribute the Firefly vehicles in Thailand, Nio has partnered with Thonburi BlueSky, a subsidiary of Thai conglomerate Thonburi Group, which will act as the general distributor in the country.
Thonburi Group is known in Southeast Asia for assembling Mercedes-Benz vehicles and operates a network that includes vehicle manufacturing, battery assembly and after-sales services.
Daniel Jin, Nio vice president and president of Firefly, said Thailand represents an important market for the brand’s regional development.
“Thailand is far more than just another market for Firefly; it is the most dynamic and strategic market in Southeast Asia,” Jin said. “It will be a driving force in our global growth, amplifying our presence in Asia, connecting us with new communities, and proving that good design and urban freedom resonate everywhere.”
The Firefly brand focuses on compact electric vehicles designed for urban mobility, with an emphasis on safety, design and space efficiency.
Its first model, the Firefly EV, features a rear-wheel-drive configuration and a compact turning radius intended for city driving. The vehicle is equipped with a 42 kWh battery pack that offers a driving range of up to 420 kilometres.
Nio unveiled the right-hand-drive version of the model at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2025 as part of its efforts to enter additional right-hand-drive markets.
According to the company, the Firefly brand has now entered 10 overseas markets and plans to gradually expand to nearly 40 automotive markets across Europe, the Americas and Southeast Asia.
The Firefly EV is also scheduled to appear at the 47th Bangkok International Motor Show as the company continues to introduce the model to the Thai market.
