Nio’s energy subsidiary, Nio Power, has entered into a new strategic partnership to expand its battery swap infrastructure in China, this time joining forces with a local infrastructure operator in Yunnan province. The move is part of a broader push to extend the company’s electric vehicle (EV) energy replenishment network across the country.
The agreement, signed with a subsidiary of Yunnan Jiaotou Group Operation Development on April 11, outlines plans to jointly develop integrated service stations featuring battery swap, charging, and energy storage capabilities along highway routes in Yunnan. The cooperation will also explore linking battery swap stations to virtual power plants in order to participate in grid demand response initiatives.

Nio Power currently operates 38 battery swap stations and more than 150 charging piles in Yunnan. The company has delivered over 390,000 battery swaps to customers in the region. Nationally, Nio has deployed 3,255 battery swap stations and provided more than 71 million swap services to date.
Yunnan Jiaotou, a state-owned enterprise that manages 99 highway service areas in the province, previously announced a planned investment of RMB 265 million ($36.3 million) for the construction of charging facilities and power grid expansion.

This latest partnership marks Nio’s fourth collaboration with a state-owned firm in recent weeks. On April 9, the company announced a plan with Jining Hi-Tech Holding Group to build 50 swap stations in Shandong. Earlier agreements in April and March included joint efforts to establish 100 stations each in Hunan and Beijing.
These developments fall under Nio’s Power Up Partners program, launched in August 2024 to accelerate the rollout of energy infrastructure through public-private cooperation. The company has so far secured similar agreements in at least 15 provinces, reinforcing its strategy to strengthen its EV support network nationwide.
