Nio has begun shipping its third-generation ES8 electric sport utility vehicles (SUVs) to delivery centers in China ahead of the model’s official launch scheduled for September 20, the company said.

The new ES8, Nio’s flagship SUV, will start customer deliveries immediately following the sales launch. The entry-level version is priced at 308,800 yuan (43,340 USD) when purchased with the Battery-as-a-Service option. Full pricing ranges from 416,800 to 456,000 yuan (58,500 – 64,110 USD).

Photos released by Nio show ES8 vehicles in black, blue, and beige being loaded onto car carriers at the company’s Hefei factory in Anhui province. The third-generation ES8 features 21-inch and 22-inch wheels, two design variants, multi-spoke chrome-plated rims, and standard LiDAR sensors with two cameras mounted on the roof.

The ES8 is the largest China-made battery electric SUV, measuring 5,280 mm long, 2,010 mm wide, and 1,800 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. The model offers six-seat (2+2+2) and seven-seat (2+3+2) layouts and six exterior color options. Key exterior features include dual-layer running lights, hidden door handles, and redesigned headlights.

Inside, the third-generation ES8 is equipped with three digital screens, a three-spoke steering wheel, a stalk-mounted gear shifter, and a 38-inch augmented reality head-up display. Other premium features include five-zone climate control, folding tables, a refrigerator, 27 speakers delivering 2,600 W of power, and a 21.4-inch 3K-resolution rear ceiling-mounted display. Cargo capacity reaches 547 liters, expandable to 3,230 liters with seats folded, plus a 230-liter front trunk.

The vehicle is powered by a dual-motor four-wheel-drive system producing 520 kW (697 hp) and 700 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h acceleration in four seconds. A 102 kWh battery offers a CLTC range of 635 km with energy consumption of 16.6 kWh per 100 km.

Nio’s third-generation ES8 is priced significantly lower than its predecessor, whose second-generation model started at 518,000 yuan (72,820 USD) including the battery. The company said the new pricing strategy is designed to maintain competitiveness in a highly contested Chinese EV market.
