Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer NIO has begun delivering its ET5 electric sedan in Europe, marking the latest expansion in its efforts to gain a foothold in the global EV market. According to the company’s Chinese and European versions of the NIO App, the first deliveries of the ET5 were made in Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands on March 31. NIO co-founder and president Qin Lihong was present in Germany to witness the first ET5 deliveries there. However, the company has not yet released any information on delivery figures.
NIO first launched the ET7, ET5, and EL7 (known as the ES7 in China) in Europe in October 2022. Since then, it has gradually made these vehicles available for order in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden through the NIO Subscription, lease program, and direct sales to customers. Initially, only leasing options were available, with purchase options becoming available in late November.
The company has been steadily expanding its presence in Europe, with the opening of its second NIO House in Germany, located in Frankfurt, on March 30. The day after the opening, the first deliveries of the ET5 were made in Europe.
NIO’s expansion into Europe is part of its broader strategy to gain a foothold in the global EV market. The company has been investing heavily in research and development, as well as expanding its production capacity, in order to meet the growing demand for EVs around the world. With its latest expansion into Europe, NIO is poised to become a major player in the global EV market.
