Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer NIO has recently initiated the delivery of its EC7 electric coupe SUV, which has gained recognition for its exceptional aerodynamics. Positioned to compete in the expanding premium electric SUV market, NIO’s flagship coupe SUV joins the ranks of the Polestar 3 as a formidable contender.
NIO unveiled the EC7 during NIO Day 2022 in December, showcasing its remarkable aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient as low as 0.23 Cd. According to NIO, this feature sets the EC7 apart in terms of market-leading efficiency, even surpassing the Tesla Model X, known for its aerodynamic prowess at 0.25 Cd. In comparison, the Polestar 3, which is expected to commence deliveries later this year, possesses a drag coefficient of 0.29 Cd.

The NIO EC7 is a mid-large size coupe SUV equipped with NIO’s second-generation NT 2.0 tech platform. Noteworthy features include Smart Matrix LED headlights with LiDAR, an active spoiler capable of reducing drag by 4% in Eco mode, and a range of cutting-edge amenities. Inside the EC7, occupants can enjoy a panoramic sunroof with smart electrochromic glass, sports seats with zero-gravity mode, and a second-generation digital cockpit.
Under the hood, the NIO EC7 boasts a dual-motor AWD system and SiC power module, providing an impressive power output of up to 480 kW (643 hp) and 626 lb-ft (850 Nm) torque. This enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in a mere 3.8 seconds.
To cater to different driving needs, the EC7 offers three battery options: 75 kWh, 100 kWh, or 150 kWh. These battery configurations provide ranges of up to 304 miles (490 km), 395 miles (636 km), and 584 miles (940 km), respectively. However, it is important to note that these figures are based on the China Light-duty Test Cycle (CLTC), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standard figures are typically around 25% lower.
