BMW has commenced production of its updated iX electric SUV at the Dingolfing plant, marking the latest iteration of the model that has been in production since 2021. The luxury automaker has sold more than 130,000 units of the iX globally, with the refreshed version featuring performance and battery upgrades.
The iX xDrive60 remains BMW’s longest-range electric vehicle, offering up to 701 kilometers (WLTP). The company describes the iX as its most significant all-electric innovation for 2025, ahead of the launch of its next-generation New Class EVs later in the year.

Christoph Schröder, Head of the Dingolfing plant, emphasized the iX’s significance. “Four years ago, at its launch, it paved the way for many future technologies here on-site. It marked the beginning of the all-electric vehicle era in our plant,” Schröder said.
Upgraded Powertrain and Battery
BMW has made technical improvements to all three iX variants while retaining the 400-volt architecture. The iX xDrive40 has been replaced by the iX xDrive45, increasing its power output to 300 kW and cutting its 0-100 kph time to 5.1 seconds from the previous 6.1 seconds.
The iX xDrive60 (previously the iX xDrive50) now delivers 400 kW, improving acceleration to 4.6 seconds for 0-100 kph. The top-tier iX M70 xDrive (previously the iX M60) has been boosted to 485 kW, with Launch Control enabling a 3.8-second sprint to 100 kph—or 3.5 seconds using the ‘one-foot rollout’ method.

Battery capacity has also increased across the lineup. The entry-level model sees the largest improvement, with energy storage increasing by 30% to 94.8 kWh. The iX xDrive60 now has 109.1 kWh (up from 108.8 kWh), while the iX M70 xDrive features 108.9 kWh (previously 108.6 kWh).
BMW’s Expanding EV Portfolio
The Dingolfing plant, which initially launched the iX as BMW’s first dedicated electric SUV, now also produces the i5 and i7, along with their estate variants. Other BMW electric models, including the iX1 and iX2, are produced in Regensburg, while the i4 is assembled in Munich.
BMW has yet to confirm whether the upcoming iX3 will surpass the 701-kilometer range of the iX xDrive60, but the company remains focused on expanding its EV portfolio ahead of the New Class platform debut.
