Nio Appoints Professor Wen Yonggang as Independent Director to Enhance Board Expertise

Nio has officially appointed Professor Wen Yonggang as an independent director on its Board of Directors, a move set to take effect from November 13, 2023. Professor Wen, currently serving as the Dean of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, is poised to offer distinctive insights to Nio’s board, given his outstanding academic background and specialization in cloud computing and computational sustainability.

William Bin Li, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Nio, expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Professor Wen to the Board of NIO. With his outstanding academic background, combined with his expertise in cloud computing and computational sustainability, and passion for innovative technologies, Professor Wen brings unique perspectives to the Board.”

Li highlighted the strategic importance of Professor Wen’s appointment, emphasizing his belief that Wen’s contribution will be pivotal as Nio continues its trajectory of innovation and the development of proprietary software and hardware technologies. Li remarked, “We believe that Professor Wen will be an important asset as we continue to innovate and build our proprietary software and hardware technological capabilities. I’m looking forward to working with him to achieve our mission of shaping a joyful lifestyle for our users.”

Professor Wen currently holds the position of Full Professor and Chair of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. He boasts a remarkable record, being a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Singapore Academy of Engineering, as well as an Association for Computing Machinery Distinguished Member. His pioneering work in applying learning-based techniques to system prototyping and performance optimization for large-scale networked computer systems has earned him numerous awards, including the 2020 IEEE Industrial Technical Excellence Award, the 2019 Nanyang Research Award, and the 2016 Nanyang Award in Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Li’s sentiments were echoed by Professor Wen, who expressed his commitment to contributing to Nio’s technological advancements. Professor Wen stated, “I’m excited to join Nio’s Board of Directors and contribute to the company’s ongoing innovation. Nio has established itself as a leader in the automotive industry, and I look forward to leveraging my expertise to enhance the development of cutting-edge technologies.”

Professor Wen’s leadership extends beyond academia, with roles such as Chair for IEEE ComSoc Multimedia Communication Technical Committee from 2014 to 2016 and his current position as the Editor in Chief of IEEE Transactions on Multimedia. Having received his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2008, Professor Wen’s wealth of experience and accolades make him a significant addition to Nio’s board.

Residing in Singapore, Professor Wen meets the criteria outlined in Rule 210(5)(d) of the Listing Manual of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited. Nio’s decision to appoint Professor Wen reinforces the company’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance and compliance with applicable securities laws and regulations.
