Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio and state-owned energy giant Sinopec Group have expanded their collaboration, formalizing a charging service cooperation agreement on September 25. This agreement builds on their existing partnership, which began in 2021 with the construction of battery swap stations.
Under the new agreement, Nio users will now have access to Sinopec’s nationwide charging network through the Nio App, in-vehicle screens, and the Jiadian App. The enhanced cooperation aims to provide greater convenience for Nio and its sub-brand Onvo users, particularly ahead of China’s National Day holiday, scheduled for October 1-7.
Nio and Sinopec initially joined forces in April 2021, launching their first second-generation battery swap station in Beijing. Over the years, the two companies have built a network of 102 battery swap stations. As of today, they have co-constructed 279 charging facilities, including 119 battery swap stations and 160 charging stations, spanning 29 provinces across China.
Nio leads the EV industry in China with the most extensive network of battery swap stations. The company currently operates 2,529 swap stations, 847 of which are located along highways. Additionally, Nio has 2,326 supercharging stations with 10,761 charging piles and 1,643 destination charging stations offering 12,684 charging piles. Through its charging map, Nio also provides access to over 1 million third-party charging piles.
