NIO and Sinopec Celebrate 2nd Anniversary of Strategic Partnership, Building 100+ Battery Swap Stations Across China

NIO and Sinopec Group celebrated the second anniversary of their strategic partnership on April 15th, 2023. The partnership has resulted in the construction of over 100 battery swap stations across China, with an average of one station being completed every three days. This partnership has been a significant milestone in the development of China’s smart electric vehicle industry and has contributed to the country’s efforts to reach carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

NIO announced that the first two third-generation battery swap stations built by the two companies were put into operation on the partnership’s second anniversary. This announcement came as NIO revealed that it had built 251 charging stations and battery swap stations in partnership with Sinopec. These stations include 102 battery swap stations, 121 supercharging stations, and 28 destination charging stations, which are located in 27 provincial administrative regions and 89 cities across China.

NIO’s partnership with Sinopec began on April 15, 2021, with the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly build charging and battery swap infrastructure. The first NIO second-generation swap station was opened at a Sinopec gas station area in Beijing in the presence of both parties. By the partnership’s first anniversary, the number of battery swap stations and charging stations they had built together reached 175.

As of April 14, NIO had 1,344 battery swap stations and 2,455 charging stations in China, providing 14,584 charging piles. The company’s charging map also provides access to over 680,000 third-party charging stations across the country. NIO recently announced plans to add 1,000 battery swap stations in 2023, with a target of over 2,300 battery swap stations in China by the end of that year.

The partnership between NIO and Sinopec has been a critical driver of China’s efforts to develop a smart electric vehicle industry and promote sustainable transportation solutions. As the two companies continue to integrate resources and build out their charging infrastructure, the partnership will undoubtedly play a significant role in driving China’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
