Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio has achieved a cumulative 60 million battery swap services milestone, just four months after reaching 50 million swaps. The milestone was recorded at 9:06 pm Beijing time on December 13, according to data from Nio’s real-time charging map.
As of today, Nio operates 2,785 battery swap stations across China, including 909 strategically located along highways. In November, the company facilitated over 2.3 million swaps, averaging 77,268 services daily. Founder and CEO William Li announced during a year-end media briefing that Nio plans to add 200 new battery swap stations this month.
The battery swap program, first launched in Shenzhen on May 20, 2018, has seen exponential growth. Milestones include 10 million swaps by July 2022 and a jump to 50 million swaps by August 2023. Li emphasized Nio’s confidence in meeting its fourth-quarter delivery guidance of 72,000 to 75,000 vehicles, with over 30,000 deliveries anticipated in December.
In its global expansion efforts, Nio has introduced vehicles in five European markets and opened its first Nio House in Abu Dhabi in November. Its first battery swap station in Belgium recently went online, marking its 59th operational station in Europe, with plans to extend the service to the Middle East and North Africa by 2025.
