The new “Acceleration Boost” option, first shared by Tesla owner and investor Matthew Donegan-Ryan on social media platform X, enhances the Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant’s power output by an estimated 100 horsepower. The upgrade reduces the vehicle’s 0–60 mph time from 4.6 seconds to 4.2 seconds—a significant performance gain for an SUV in its class.
Tesla had previously offered similar acceleration upgrades for earlier Model Y versions. However, this marks the first appearance of a paid performance enhancement for the refreshed 2026 model, which debuted under the “Juniper” internal codename.

The upgrade fills a temporary gap for customers seeking higher performance, as Tesla has yet to relaunch either the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) or Performance versions of the updated crossover following the end of the limited Launch Series.
The current Model Y lineup in the United States consists solely of the Long Range AWD variant. While Tesla has not confirmed when—or if—the updated Performance model will return, the $2,000 Acceleration Boost provides a stopgap solution for drivers eager for quicker response times without waiting for a factory-built high-performance variant.

Tesla has not released official power specifications for the upgraded variant, but the estimated increase and acceleration improvement suggest the company is continuing its strategy of monetizing software-based vehicle enhancements, a move that aligns with its growing portfolio of in-app purchases and over-the-air upgrades.
