Porsche previously reported that they were working on a new, more luxurious electric SUV that would sit above the Cayenne in the company’s lineup. Not only that, this new electric SUV is also predicted to be able to shift the BMW iX from its position.

Announced at a strategy update meeting last week, the new model will be known as the K1, and is built using a modified version of the VW Group SSP electric architecture. Porsche boss Oliver Blume not only revealed the plans for his new vehicle, but also confirmed that this car will be produced at the Leipzig factory, and has a focus on dominating the European market.

ā€œThis new car will further expand our position in the luxury automotive segment. We are targeting the higher margin segment specifically and aim to take advantage of new sales opportunities in this way,ā€ said Blume.

The SSP architecture ā€“ or Scalable Systems Platform ā€“ is expected to arrive in 2026, and is claimed to incorporate all the best elements of the VW Group MEB platform currently available. Not only that, this platform will also reportedly be used to present the all-electric Porsche Macan which is expected to arrive in 2024.

The manufacturer says that the SSP architecture will offer an electrical system from 400V to 800V for the sport type, and supports charging up to 350 kW. Porsche is planning to lead the SSP project, and ensure that Lamborghini, Bentley, and Audi can also use this technology.

In addition to being used to build the Macan EV, Porsche also plans to build the next generation Cayenne as a more sophisticated and powerful all-electric vehicle.
