Despite the recent delivery of the Tesla Semi, the electric vehicle manufacturer has yet to fully reveal the final specifications of the Class 8 all-electric truck. However, a photo posted by Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has provided the EV community with a first glimpse of the Semi’s impressive battery pack.

Tesla has announced a $3.6 billion investment in Northern Nevada, which will be used to expand the Gigafactory Nevada, including the addition of a high-volume Tesla Semi factory and a 100 GWh 4680 cell production line. The expansion is also expected to bring in 3,000 more team members to the company.

Governor Lombardo, who previously mentioned the substantial Tesla investment during his State of the State address, shared several images from his visit to Gigafactory Nevada on social media. Notably, one of the photos featured the Tesla Semi’s 1000-volt battery pack prominently in the foreground.

Previous leaks from @greentheonly, a known Tesla hacker, revealed that the Tesla Semi truck will have a modular battery pack with a 3×3 pattern of modules. This design allows for easy disconnection of sub-packs to create versions of the truck with a shorter range.

Governor Lombardo’s recent photos of the Tesla Semi reveal large battery packs with a layered design, unlike the single-layer modules used in other Tesla vehicles. The refined appearance of the packs suggests the Semi is ready for mass production.

However, during a Q3 2022 earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the current iteration of the Semi does not use the company’s newer 4680 cells. With a 4680 cell production line being added to the Gigafactory Nevada, it is likely that the Semi will transition to this form factor in the future.
