Neta Auto, the new energy vehicle (NEV) brand under Hozon Auto, has made a significant move in its brand strategy by introducing the Neta Aya, a refreshed compact electric vehicle (EV), while discontinuing its predecessor, the Neta V, from its website.
The Neta Aya, presented on August 3, comes in four versions with attractive starting prices: RMB 73,800 ($10,300), RMB 78,800, RMB 84,800, and RMB 88,800. With dimensions measuring 4,070 mm in length, 1,690 mm in width, and 1,540 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,420 mm, the Neta Aya offers a versatile and practical option for urban driving.
Interestingly, the Neta Aya retains the same dimensions as its predecessor, the Neta V, which had been available in four different variants with starting prices ranging from RMB 83,900 to RMB 96,900.
One of the main highlights of the Neta Aya is its impressive driving range. The EV is offered in two versions, featuring CLTC ranges of 318 km and 410 km, respectively. The shorter-range model boasts an electric motor with a maximum power of 40 kW and a peak torque of 110 Nm. Meanwhile, the longer-range variant is powered by an electric motor with a maximum power output of 70 kW and a peak torque of 150 Nm.
Neta Auto, known for its focus on the budget-conscious consumer, has now decided to expand its offerings into the premium segment. This strategic move began on July 31, 2022, with the launch of their flagship sedan model, the Neta S. Moreover, during the Shanghai auto show on April 18, the company showcased the Neta GT electric sports car, targeting performance enthusiasts, with a starting price of RMB 178,800 yuan.
In July, Neta delivered a total of 10,039 vehicles, indicating a 28.48 percent decrease compared to the same month the previous year and a 17.25 percent decline from June. While the company did not provide specific reasons for the decline, it is possible that the transition to the new Neta Aya and its ongoing expansion into the premium market segment may have played a role.
Notably, the Neta S underwent a facelift on July 20, with a price reduction of RMB 30,000, or 15.81 percent, bringing the starting price down to RMB 159,800, which could attract even more buyers seeking a stylish and affordable premium EV.
