Neta Auto, a subsidiary of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) firm Hozon Auto, has commenced mass production of its vehicles at an assembly plant in Indonesia, marking a significant step in its international market expansion.

PT Neta Auto, the Indonesian EV maker, officially began localized production of Neta vehicles on a CKD (completely knocked down) basis, according to a statement released by the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker.

The company’s latest model, the Neta V-II, is being assembled by PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) in Bekasi, West Java, with the vehicle powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from Chinese battery maker Gotion High-tech. Neta highlighted that 44 percent of the battery pack’s components are produced locally in Indonesia.

Kong Fanlong, co-founder and co-president of Neta, expressed optimism about the Indonesian plant’s role in meeting the growing demand for EVs in the local market and serving as a production base for exporting vehicles to other countries.

“Neta is committed to providing high-quality, sustainable transportation solutions to customers worldwide. Our investment in Indonesia underscores our long-term vision and commitment to the region,” Kong said in a statement.

The move reflects Neta’s broader strategy to expand into overseas markets, with its Thailand plant already in production since November 30 last year, and plans underway for a third overseas plant in Malaysia.

Neta’s partnership with Indonesian companion PT Handal Indonesia Motor, formalized in a cooperation agreement on July 26, 2023, has paved the way for this milestone. The company received its first equipment for the Indonesian plant in March this year, signaling the beginning of its localized production efforts in the country.
