Moscow Takes Bold Step Towards Sustainable Transportation with 1,000 Electric Buses from KAMAZ

Moscow, the capital city of Russia, is taking another major step towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation with the procurement of 1,000 electric buses from KAMAZ and plans to purchase another 200 electric buses from GAZ Group. This initiative is in line with the city’s goal to enhance its public transportation network and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport, the delivery of the 1,000 electric buses from KAMAZ and 200 electric buses from GAZ Group will be made over the next two years. This will effectively double the current number of electric buses in the city, which runs 1,055 electric buses on 79 routes.

In addition, Moscow is set to install almost 200 ultra-fast charging stations this year to support the charging needs of the electric bus fleet. The city also plans to launch 29 new electric bus routes and open a second electric bus park in the Mitino district in the northwest of Moscow.

Liksutov noted that since 2022, Moscow has been receiving innovative Russian-made electric buses with modernized batteries that can deliver up to 80-90 km without charging. The new electric buses have also been upgraded with larger front route indicators and stronger floor coverings. The cabin of the new electric buses is equipped with adaptive lighting that changes depending on the time of day.

The introduction of electric buses in Moscow began in 2018 and the growing fleet has already covered over 115 million kilometers since then. With the addition of the new buses, Moscow is set to further reduce its carbon footprint and promote a cleaner and greener city.
