Mobileye, a provider of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), has introduced region-specific enhancements to its safety technology in India, a country that recorded the highest number of road traffic fatalities globally in 2022. The company’s ADAS technology has been adapted to meet the distinct challenges of India’s road conditions, which include a broad mix of vehicles, pedestrians, and animals, often in environments with limited road infrastructure.
India reported more than 168,000 traffic deaths in 2022, according to government data. As part of broader safety goals, the Indian government has drafted legislation that would make features such as blind spot monitoring and forward collision warnings standard across various vehicle segments. The upcoming Bharat NCAP program is also expected to encourage wider adoption of advanced safety technologies.
Mobileye’s ADAS solutions are powered by the company’s EyeQ™ system-on-chip and include features such as Automatic Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control. The company has also introduced a specialized detection algorithm trained to recognize cows—an adaptation aimed at improving the performance of ADAS in a region where livestock frequently appear on roadways.
“Our systems are designed to reflect the complexity of local conditions,” Mobileye said in a statement. “This includes developing specific features that address unique road scenarios to support safer driving.”
Mobileye’s offerings in India include its base ADAS, Cloud-Enhanced ADAS™, and SuperVision™. These systems have been tailored to respond to India’s diverse road environments, including areas with faded lane markings or high pedestrian density.
By adapting global safety technologies to regional conditions, Mobileye aims to contribute to India’s efforts to enhance road safety and support the evolving regulatory landscape.
