Metzger Spedition GmbH has added a MAN eTGX electric truck to its fleet, expanding its zero-emission operations alongside three Volvo FH Electric vehicles already in service.

The logistics company, based in southern Germany, said the new truck is equipped with a 534 kWh battery and offers a range of up to 500 kilometres, enabling longer routes than its existing electric vehicles, which are primarily used for short- to medium-distance transport. The company expects high utilisation of the new vehicle.

Metzger acquired the MAN eTGX through a funding programme in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, which covered about 50% of the additional cost compared with a diesel truck.

The company currently operates four in-house fast-charging stations at its headquarters to support its electric fleet. Electricity is supplied by an on-site solar installation, and the charging points are also available to third-party electric trucks during daytime hours to encourage wider adoption of electric transport in the region.

Managing Director Johannes Metzger said the addition marks progress in the company’s sustainability efforts. “Since 2021, Metzger has successfully relied on electric mobility in the heavy-duty commercial vehicle sector and has consistently gained positive experience in day-to-day operations,” he said. “By integrating the MAN eTGX, we are reaching another important milestone in our sustainability strategy.”

Metzger said the company plans to add six more electric trucks over the next three years and aims to electrify at least half of its fleet by 2030. The firm currently operates about 40 trucks in total.

As part of its broader strategy, branded “Charge the Future,” Metzger has also transitioned its remaining diesel vehicles to HVO100 renewable fuel since late 2024 and is expanding on-site solar power generation.
