Mercedes-Benz will debut its electric GLC SUV at the IAA Mobility show in Munich this September, positioning the new model as a cornerstone of its electrification strategy. The launch will be accompanied by three additional electric vehicles built on an 800-volt architecture, the automaker said on Monday.
Calling the electric GLC “the highlight of this year’s show,” Mercedes-Benz emphasized the SUV’s role in extending the legacy of its top-selling mid-size model into the fully electric era. The vehicle, which the company refers to as “the new face of the brand,” will be presented at both the B3 hall and the Mercedes-Benz Pavilion in Munich’s public “Open Space.”
“Purposeful, refined and unmistakably a GLC, it embodies everything expected from the top seller in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup. Seamlessly continuing the legacy of the GLC in its electric form, the new model is iconic, versatile, intuitive and smooth,” the company said in a statement.
Unlike the CLA series, which shares its MMA platform between combustion-hybrid and electric versions, the electric GLC is being developed on a separate technical path from its combustion-engine sibling, despite both sharing a nearly identical design. The new electric GLC is expected to target a WLTP range of 650 kilometres, support 320 kW DC fast charging, and feature a 320 kW dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. A 94.4 kWh battery will power the vehicle, with a more affordable LFP-based version likely to follow.
In addition to the electric GLC, Mercedes will showcase a camouflaged prototype of its upcoming all-electric Grand Limousine, codenamed VLE, set for release in 2026. The concept was previewed earlier this year at Auto Shanghai and is expected to mark a new chapter for the brand’s luxury van segment.
