Mercedes-Benz has recorded nearly 25,500 registrations of its all-electric Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric across Europe through February, with demand led by its home market of Germany, while sales in China remain comparatively subdued.
The CLA, built on the company’s new MMA platform, marks the first model in what the automaker describes as its largest product offensive, with around 40 new or updated vehicles planned by 2027. Initially launched as a fully electric model, the CLA is also expected to be offered as a hybrid variant at a later stage.
According to data compiled by Dataforce for Handelsblatt, Germany accounted for more than 9,600 registrations, followed by the United Kingdom with around 3,700 units and Belgium with just under 2,400. Roughly 30% of sales were to private buyers, 50% to business customers, and 20% were dealer registrations.
Sales momentum built steadily following the model’s European launch in August 2025, when 897 units were registered. Monthly registrations rose to more than 3,500 units in both September and October and peaked at approximately 4,750 units in December. Despite a seasonal slowdown, January and February figures remained above early launch levels.
“The new all-electric CLA has significantly exceeded our expectations even in February,” said Mathias Geisen, Sales Director at Mercedes-Benz. “Our order books extend well into the second half of 2026.”
The strong European performance reflects a broader strategic shift under CEO Ola Källenius, who has moved away from the distinct design language of earlier EQ-branded models. New electric vehicles now more closely resemble their internal combustion counterparts and adopt familiar naming conventions such as CLA and GLC, paired with “EQ technology.”
In contrast, early results in China have been weaker. Data from MarkLines indicates that around 1,600 units of the long-wheelbase electric CLA have been registered since its launch in October 2025. Monthly sales have not exceeded 700 units, with a peak of 682 registrations in December.
Even so, the model showed relative strength within the company’s EV lineup in China, becoming the top-selling EQ model in January with 220 units, amid broader market headwinds following the withdrawal of EV subsidies.
