Luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz has announced the availability of its new Wallbox EV charger for customers across the United States. The Level 2 home charger, designed in true Mercedes-Benz style, offers internet-connected capabilities such as remote functions and over-the-air updates. Specific Mercedes customers are eligible to receive a complimentary Wallbox charger with the purchase of an electric vehicle (EV).

Mercedes-Benz, renowned for its luxury vehicles, has been expanding its electric vehicle lineup under its EQ brand, incorporating its distinctive design language and technological expertise into EVs.

To support the shift towards sustainability, Mercedes has developed a global charging ecosystem, including 100,000 EV charging piles in the US. Last November, the automaker inaugurated its first branded Charging Hub in North America, near its US headquarters outside Atlanta. This station is part of a $1 billion joint venture aimed at establishing at least 400 Hubs housing 2,500 DC fast chargers by 2030. Mercedes is also part of the IONNA joint venture, which plans to install at least 30,000 additional fast chargers across the continent.

Mercedes has also introduced a Mobile Flex Cable for home charging, included with every EQ EV purchase of 2024 models or newer, allowing for Level 1 or Level 2 charging. Additionally, the automaker has partnered with industry veteran Wallbox to develop a new charger.

The newly launched branded Wallbox charger, now widely available in the US, can be obtained at no cost depending on the model purchased. Designed to complement Mercedes’ overall design language and charging infrastructure, the charger can be connected to the internet, enabling remote access, monitoring, and control via smartphone.

In addition to managing charge sessions, users can estimate home charging costs based on the energy consumed at any given rate from the local grid. The Level 2 charger is also capable of receiving over-the-air software updates, providing additional features in the future.

Operating on a 240V split-circuit, the Wallbox unit can deliver up to 11.5 kW, approximately eight times faster than conventional 110V outlet charging. It comes with a 23-foot charging cable to accommodate various parking configurations and is equipped with a J1772 plug, with plans to eventually adopt the North American Charging Standard.

The branded Wallbox charger is available at Mercedes-Benz dealerships and requires professional installation, preferably through the automaker’s partner, Qmerit. Customers purchasing a model year 2023 EQE or EQS (all variants) qualify for a complimentary Wallbox unit, as announced by Mercedes-Benz.
