The Mercedes-Benz EQS, the most expensive electric car made by the German car manufacturer, was recalled for allowing drivers to watch TV while driving. A total of 227 electric cars that have been sold had to be recalled because of the error.
The recalled luxury electric cars are production cars from December 8, 2020 to October 13, 2021. The recall number according to Autoblog is 21V-931.
The reason for the recall does seem trivial, namely allowing car drivers to watch TV while driving. It’s just that in the United States driving a car while watching television is prohibited. Mercedes-Benz had initially disabled the TV Streaming service in the Mercedes-Benz EQS car when the electric car was running. It’s just that in reality the driver can still watch TV while the car is running.
It is known that the head unit in the Mercedes-Benz EQS is special. Its size reaches 52 inches and is called Hyperscreen because of its large shape. This size is a combination of three screens, each measuring 17.7 inches, 12.3 inches and 12.3 inches.
This happens if the car owner has a Mercedes Me account on their smartphone. If the Mercedes Me account on the smartphone is connected to the infotainment system in the car, the driver can still use all the features in the infotainment. Including watching TV Streaming while driving the car.
Mercedes-Benz according to Autoblog will not make repairs by pulling the car back to the workshop. Instead they will perform software updates via an Over the Air (OTA) system. So car owners just have to agree to software updates so that the TV Streaming service system can run normally again.
