Mercedes-Benz USA has announced a recall for certain 2022-2024 EQB electric SUVs due to a potential risk of high-voltage battery failure, which could lead to a fire while the vehicle is either parked or in operation.
The recall impacts 7,362 units of the EQB 250, EQB 300 4MATIC, and EQB 350 4MATIC models, as identified by NHTSA recall campaign number 25V050000.
The issue stems from potential internal failure within the high-voltage battery, which may increase the risk of fire due to factors such as electrical current fluctuations in the charging infrastructure or mechanical damage, combined with production variations at the battery supplier.
In some cases, owners may see a high-voltage battery malfunction warning message while driving. However, the issue may not trigger any warning if the vehicle is parked.
MBUSA has advised owners to limit battery charging to 80% until a remedy is provided. The manufacturer will update the battery management system software at no cost to owners, with dealer notifications scheduled to begin on February 7, 2025. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by April 1, 2025.
