Mercedes-Benz and Munich-based The Mobility House have announced a Europe-wide partnership to introduce intelligent charging services for private electric vehicle (EV) owners. The initiative will integrate both unidirectional (V1G) and bidirectional (V2G) charging technologies with the automakerâs upcoming generation of electric vehicles, beginning with the electric CLA model.
The collaboration aims to link Mercedes-Benz EVs to European energy grids, enabling smart charging when renewable energy is abundant and, in the case of V2G, allowing vehicles to discharge power back into the grid during peak demand. This grid-balancing approach supports the use of intermittent renewable sources such as solar and wind, helping to stabilise energy supply while offering potential cost savings or revenue streams to EV owners.

âThe intelligent integration of electric vehicles into the energy system is the key to a sustainable and economical mobility future,â said Thomas Raffeiner, CEO of The Mobility House. âTogether with Mercedes-Benz, we are taking vehicle-to-grid technology from vision to reality â and making emission-free and cost-efficient electromobility a reality.â
Mercedes-Benz will provide its automotive technology expertise, while The Mobility House brings its experience in integrating EV batteries with energy markets. The two companies previously collaborated on projects including second-life battery storage systems, notably through their Enbase Power joint venture.

The rollout of V1G and V2G services will coincide with the launch of Mercedes-Benzâs new EV lineup based on the MMA platform, with the electric CLA already available in Germany starting at âŹ55,858. While the CLA is technically capable of V2G functionality, its use as a home energy storage unit will require a compatible DC charger and is subject to regional regulatory approvals. Mercedes has indicated that the V2G feature will be activated after market launch via over-the-air updates.
Due to varying legal and technical requirements across European countries, the smart charging services will be introduced gradually. Still, the companies say the long-term goal is to offer a seamless, end-to-end charging solution that enhances both sustainability and consumer convenience.
