McLeod Software has completed an application programming interface (API) integration with Aurora Innovation, allowing carriers to book and manage autonomous truck capacity directly within McLeod’s Transportation Management System (TMS).
The integration, delivered ahead of schedule, enables McLeod customers running version 21.1 or newer to tender autonomous loads powered by Aurora Driver without leaving their existing workflows. The companies said the accelerated timeline reflected growing customer interest in accessing driverless trucking capacity as part of day-to-day operations.
The embedded functionality provides dispatchers with real-time vehicle location tracking and automated status updates from Aurora Driver-equipped trucks, giving carriers continuous visibility throughout pickup and delivery without requiring separate platforms or manual data entry.
“The ability to tender autonomous loads through our existing McLeod dashboard has been a meaningful operational improvement,” said Rami Abdeljaber, executive vice president and chief operations officer at Russell Transport, an early adopter of the integration. “We are seeing efficiency gains without disrupting our operations.”
McLeod said the integration makes it the first TMS provider to natively embed autonomous trucking capacity into its platform, a step the company views as critical as carriers prepare for broader deployment of driverless freight services.
Tom McLeod, founder and chief executive of McLeod Software, is expected to discuss the strategic implications of autonomous trucking integration at the upcoming BGSA Supply Chain Conference later this month.
Aurora has partnered with a range of transportation and manufacturing companies as it advances commercialization of autonomous freight, including FedEx, Hirschbach, PACCAR, Ryder, Schneider, Uber Freight, Volvo Trucks and Werner.
