The Luxeed R7 EREV fastback crossover, a collaboration between Huawei and Chery, is set to make its official debut on December 19 in China. With an impressive range of up to 1,570 km, the vehicle is positioned to compete with premium SUVs like the BMW X6, offering advanced technology and a starting price below 250,000 yuan (around 34,350 USD).
Luxeed is a joint venture between Chery, which handles platform development and manufacturing, and Huawei, responsible for providing the vehicle’s brain and key components, as well as managing sales. The current model lineup includes the S7 sedan and the R7 SUV coupe, with the R7 being the bestseller, having sold over 11,000 units in November. The highly anticipated EREV variant of the R7 will debut soon, expanding the model range and offering an extended range electric vehicle (EREV) option.
The Luxeed R7 EREV variant features a 1.5-liter turbocharged internal combustion engine (ICE) that acts solely as a generator, supplying power to a battery and electric motor rather than driving the wheels directly. The vehicle uses a 36 kWh CATL-made LFP battery, providing an electric range of 201 km. When combined with the ICE generator, the R7 EREV offers a mixed range of up to 1,570 km based on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
The SUV retains the sleek, fastback design of its BEV counterpart, including thin headlights, retractable door handles, and a slanted roofline, though it is slightly longer than the BMW X6. It will also feature Huawei’s third-generation Qiankun ADAS system, enabling autonomous driving at high speeds and on elevated roads, as well as intelligent parking capabilities. The R7 EREV is expected to start at a price below 250,000 yuan (34,350 USD), with more details to be revealed at its official launch on December 19.
